“So much of who we become as adults is because of playing sports as a kid.”
Not all kids have the same access or opportunity to compete in organized sports. According to a study by Sioux Falls Thrive and Augustana College, the obstacles of youth involvement in extracurricular activities are due to a lack of resources.
The Problem:
• Finances
• Transportation
• Support & Encouragement
Kids not involved in extracurricular activities are at a higher risk of:
• Delinquent behavior
• Not reaching academic potential
• Living sedentary lifestyles
• Obesity
• Repeating the cycle with their kids
Every child needs an environment where they can thrive. Sports foster that environment. Through sports, coaches, and teammates can hold each other accountable and grow together.
We will partner with middle school boys and girls from federally aided public schools to help them develop their skills on and off the court and field.
We will start by forming basketball and soccer teams. As the foundation develops, we will include more sports.
We will help develop kids for their future. Through education and mentorship, we will unlock each child’s potential inside and outside the sports arena.
Kids will lead by example and help encourage their teammates and friends to strive to do their best in the game, school and life.
Just like these kids who cannot do it alone – neither can we. We rely on the support of this community to help these kids.
Each child in our program will experience an environment where they can thrive. We’ll ensure this is possible through our 3-pillars, skill development, education, and mentorship:
1) Sports skills
2) Healthy living habits
3) Strength and conditioning
1) Academic guidance
2) Accountability to school
3) Safe environment to study
1) Leadership
2) Motivation
3) Relationship building
